Power Out

Even though it is officially Spring, Winter appears to be dragging it's heels in leaving many parts of the world. The game site where I am a chat moderator has Mods from around the globe and, with that, different seasons and different weather. One of the things that plagues us is power outages that the weather can cause, either from snow or rain or tornado-like winds.
In my own case, it wasn't bad weather that caused me to lose power one night right in the middle of my shift. It was bad driving. Someone that more than likely should not have been driving hit a power pole and blew out the transformer causing my entire neighborhood to be dark. How much nicer it would have been for me to have a yamaha generator so that when the power went out I could be back online in moments.
If I lived in the East Coast where the weather is always terrible during the Winter I would definitely have one of these generators handy. You never know when you are going to lose power, or why.
This site also has other delights that would be useful for folks that live in the snow three or more months per year, like snowblowers. If you, like me, rarely worry about snow, they also have some lawn tools like leafblowers and lawnmowers that can come in very handy.
Don't be without power ever again. Equip your house with a generator and then relax if and when the power goes out.

Got To Love Shrimp

You really, really have to like shrimp to do something this stupid:

YORK, Pa. (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man allegedly trying to steal a bag of shrimp from a supermarket was arrested with the frozen bag of seafood stuffed in his pants, police said.

A store security officer and a customer at the Weis Market in Dover Township detained Brian Troy McDaniel, 37, the (York, Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News reported last week.

The store officer told police he saw the suspect enter the frozen foods section of the store and take two packages of shrimp from the freezer.

McDaniel then allegedly "proceeded to pull the front of his jeans away from his body and deposit one of the bags of shrimp into his crotch area," police said.

York police did not say what McDaniel did with the other bag of shrimp.

The store officer tried to stop McDaniel as he was leaving the store, but McDaniel refused to stop and attacked the officer, then broke free and ran across the parking lot where the security officer and a store customer caught him and detained him until police arrived, authorities said.

McDaniel was charged with robbery, retail theft and simple assault then freed on $10,000 bail.

I hope he thinks the shrimp that he never got to eat was worth the price! ROFLMAO

Credit Rewards

There are a lot of credit cards out there on the market these days, from the usual Visa and MasterCards to fancy ones that have your favorite sports teams logo on the front or some that they say you can even personalize with your favorite photo. These are all good cards to carry as these are the days of plastic rather than cash.
The problem is not finding a card that you want, the problem is which card gives you something back. Most credit card companies offer some sort of rewards program because, let's face it, they want you to actually use the card they give you. From a business standpoint this makes great sense.
Now then, what if I said you could get visa reward cards that offer you not only the general use of the credit cards but also earn you up to five points per every dollar you spend. Add to this No Annual Fee,Great Low Introductory Rate on Balance Transfers and Fraud Protection. And the card comes from people that have been around for a long, long time, the Good Sam Club.
What can you do with your rewards? You can use them for lots of things, from airfare to exclusives such as magazine subscriptions, roadside assistance, and club memberships. Sounds like an excellent program to me.
It's time to change how you get rewarded for spending your money, get a Visa Rewards card from the folks at the Good Sam club and truly reward yourself.

Calm After The Storm

Nice and peaceful in the chat lobby today and I hope it stays that way. All the drama is over on Facebook but that's okay. Better there than in the lobby.
We need some peace and quiet in that lobby. One of the Mods has found himself with incredibly high blood pressure, enough to cause a stroke or heart attack, he doesn't need any extra stress at this point in time.
That Mod will be taking a few days off of his duties and, hopefully, resting himself and giving the meds his doctor gave him some time to work and bring that BP down. His job is stressful enough, so the lobby can be all the extra to do the man in and I would hate to see that happen.
So, I pray for the rest of the night to be as calm and quiet as the day has been. My shift starts in another hour and a half or so, I want peace in there.

All Is Quiet

I have not been into the chat lobby yet today. Rather skitterish about going there after yesterday and the explosion. But I have been chatting with the other Mods on Skype.
All appears to be normal and quiet they say. No one has mentioned the boss. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. I am hoping it is a good thing though, we need some peace in that lobby. The boss also needs some peace in her life, all those personal attacks cannot possibly be good for her.
I did leave a message on her Skype but she hasn't answered it yet. Hopefully she has her computer off to avoid more mud slinging and stress.
As for me I will venture into the lobby soon, I have some other things I need to do first that require my concentration. I can't concentrate on work if I am chatting with people, I don't multi-task that well lol

What's Cooking?

Often my wife asks me, before I've even had breakfast, what do I want to have for dinner. I have no idea why women do that but my first wife was the same way. Come to think of it so was my mother. What is it about dinner that gets women so excited?
Maybe they just love to cook or eat that dinner meal. Or maybe they have some fancy kitchen cookware that they love to use (although they don't always love to clean it lol). If they have le creuset cookware then it would make sense to me.
From cookware to kitchen gadgets to cooking classes this site has dinner (as well as the other two meals of the day) covered. Need a toaster? They have it. A griddler? Got that too. How about a programmable coffeemaker? Yep, they have that too.
Knives, cutting boards, they have your whole kitchen needs covered. The only kitchen item I didn't see was the sink, the stove or a dishwasher. So much to see, so much to buy!
You need kitchen items or want to throw away all your old stuff and start anew? This is definitely the place to go and shop. Then when you ask your spouse what they want for dinner you will be ready no matter what they want!

More Drama

All the garbage continues on the game site. I wish it would stop but it appears to be like a wildfire that is out of control.
Yesterday the crap hit the fan in the chat lobby and the boss had had enough. She exploded all over the place and really let one of the instigators have it! Whoo-hoo! Her language violated the rules though but I didn't have the heart to boot her nor did any of the other Mods. A person can only take so much garbage before they start giving it back.
Unfortunately, the boss also quit. Not good at all. I talked to her on the phone afterwards and tried to calm her down and I am hoping she will reconsider. Haven't seen hide nor hair of her so far today though.
Time will tell what happens and all I can do is hope and pray that things calm down...

Drama Online

Some of the game moderators on our game site have left but they didn't leave happily it seems. They are now intent on bashing the site as well as the moderators left behind and anyone that agrees with those of us left behind.
While this is bothersome to some, I don't care. I enjoy a good argument especially when I am arguing with my tongue in cheek. They think they are highly intelligent creatures but they do not seem to grasp that what I answer them on a certain social networking site is just me being facetious. I am a sarcastic person so online drama can be a lot of fun for me.
I only wish these people would realize that they are full of beans when they say that they do not think about the game site or the people they are bashing. If they were not on their minds then why spend so much time and energy bashing them?
Perhaps they should all grow up now and try to remember that they are adults. If these were kids I could understand the fuss. But these are not even young adults, they should all know better at this stage of their lives.
Meanwhile the drama continues...

Creatine

What is creatine, you ask? I didn't know either so I had to look it up in a search engine. Unfortunately I got this definition: Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that occurs naturally in vertebrates and helps to supply energy to all cells in the body, primarily muscle, by increasing the formation of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Creatine was identified in 1832 when Michel Eugène Chevreul discovered it as a component of skeletal muscle, which he later named creatine after the Greek word for meat, κρέας (kreas). In solution, creatine is in equilibrium with creatinine. It all looks Greek to me.
Basically creatine is something that the body produces to assist the muscles of the body. Most of it comes from eating meats. Now isn't that so much simpler than the definition above?
Creatine is generally used by athletes and body builders to help them increase their muscle mass. If you would like to increase your muscle mass then this is the product for you. But, where does one find the best creatine?
You could scour the internet for hours, perhaps day, doing the research but I don't think sitting in a chair for that many hours will do anything for your muscles except perhaps make them lethargic. But, fear not dear readers the research has already been done for you. All you have to do is click the link in this post and find all the information that you need about creatine supplements. I love it when things are easy.
Once you have decided which is best for you I advise you to take this information and talk to your doctor. Better to be safe than sorry, you know. Some persons with allergies might not wish to take creatine so it is best to talk things over with your doctor. They know your body much better than you do. Heck, I bet your doctor would understand every word of the first definition I wrote up at the top of this entry.
Get yourself some creatine, get yourself some muscle mass.

Extra Padding

Everyone that knows me or those who have read this blog knows that I have no rear end. I'm too skinny everywhere and my butt is no exception. It often hurts from my sitting too long or laying on my back too long. It's frustrating at best.
A few days ago my daughter said she saw something at Walgreens that she thought I should buy and she was giggling as she went to show me the item online. I knew I was in trouble there LOL:

Basically it is a pair of panties with padding inside of it. I guess the idea is to give you a better looking butt although I can see where my daughter might think the padding could help me. I laughed with her as she made fun of me, a good time had by both of us.
Today I am sitting in the easy chair with my laptop and my butt hurts, a lot. I am thinking that, for the twenty dollars she saw them at at Walgreens, these things might be worth a try. Pillows don't seem to help, maybe some padding right on my backside would.
I will keep thinking on this one and let you all know if I try them.

Laptop Typing

I really love my new laptop but I don't care that much for typing with it. I just don't know how anyone could stand to type a lot with a laptop but I know that some folks write entire books using their laptops.
Maybe it is because I tend to hit the keys too hard, I do it on my desktop PC as well. My wife always complains that I must be angry when I am typing and reminds me that a soft touch will make the keys type just as well as pounding on them.
I'd like to think that my problem is that I am old enough to remember typing on a real typewriter, a Royal manual one in fact. I loved that old typewriter and was never impressed with the electric typewriters. I used electric ones to type up college term papers but writing on one of them machines was not as enjoyable as my old standard Royal machine.
And, of course there is always the fact that my fingers just don't type as well as they did when I was a young man. But, I try my best to do the things I need to do fumbling as I go.
I am sitting in the living room with my laptop typing this entry as I did the previous one on cigars. I am here because it is warmer in this room and the laptop itself is providing some warmth for my lap. I am still cold even though it is now afternoon and the house is normally warmed up by now.

Cigars,Anyone?

While I realize that the cost of smoking along with the current view of smokers has cause a lot of people to either quit smoking or hide the fact that they smoke, there are still may smokers out there, myself included. And one of the things I have always enjoyed as a smoker is a fine cigar.
Cigars have always been chic, and they have always been very popular, unlike their counterparts cigarettes and chewing tobacco. I've tried all three and I stick with my cigarettes but I always have bee fond of relaxing in an easy chair with a cigar.
This website has a lot of cigars to choose from, many I have never even heard of but they look like they would be an enjoyable smoke.
They also sell humidors, an essential accessory to properly store your cigars to keep them fresh. Nothing worse than to go for a cigar and find the tobacco unraveling at your touch. Yuck!
What really sets this shop above the rest is their payment options. They accept the usual credit cards but they also accept PayPal along with the Bill Me Later option. How sweet!
The company offers free shipping with UPS ground so that is another plus as well. As my readers should know by now, I really like free shipping when I shop online.
So, check out the fine selection of cigars and accessories then get ready to kick back in your easy chair and relax with a great smoke.

Danged Weather

It's almost Spring, why isn't it warm already? I am sitting here in the kitchen and I am colder than I should be. The sun is shining outside but the wind is blowing cold air down from the mountains and it is cold outside.
I turned on the heater and the room feels warmer but my hands are still very cold. My daughter came in the room and put her hand on mine and complained that I am too cold so maybe it is just me.
I hate Winter, always have, but I find as I get older I dislike it all the more. Come on Spring, spring already! I want to be warm!

Baby Gifts

I do not have a baby, nor have I ever had one which is just fine by me. I learned at a rather young age that I do not have the patience required to care for babies nor do I have any desire to ever again change diapers. Ugh! I used to watch one of my nephews when I was still a young boy, this is where I learned these things. I like babies, so long as I just have to look at them or hold them for a few moments then hand them back over to their parent. Babies are cute, don't get me wrong.
The really nice thing about having friends and family members have babies is that you can buy them gifts, but first you need to see someunique baby gift ideas.
I was impressed with this website as they have gifts that are personalized as well as other gifts that are for toddlers as well as babies. They also have things that are definitely for parents, like the First Tooth & Curl Set. I remember my mother always kept a lock of my baby hair in her wallet, encased in plastic. I don't know why but it always brought a smile to her face whenever she looked at it, so I know that parents with babies will love this set.
If you have a baby of your own or you are a grandparent like me or you just simply know someone that has a baby then this website is for you. Lots of gift ideas that will thrill not only the parents but also the child. I especially like the personalized items as they are cute. Whether you are looking for jumpers or other clothing items or simpler things like photo albums for parents to store baby pictures in then you must check out this website.

Cold Today

I awoke to find, as usual, this house is cold. yes, I know that it isn't quite Spring yet but it is cold in this house. So I did what I do every day, I turned on the heater top help thaw out the house as well as my arthritic joints and bones. Being old is a pain, literally.
I turn the heater off when I head for this kitchen and my computer and normally that is okay, the house isn't hot but it is livable. Today however it is still kind of chilly. My wrists and fingers hurt. I was thinking of switching over to the laptop in the living room and turning the heater back on but my daughter is cleaning that room and I don't want to be in there. She is listening to a sermon from her church while she cleans and I don't wish to be that close to the recording either.
A few minutes ago my daughter came into the room and asked if we minded if she turned the heater on. I said okay and her mother acted shocked that the kid would even think of such a thing. Usually the kid is hot and wants the fan on lol
So, sensing some displeasure on her mother's part, the kid said she would wait a while and see if she is still cold. Darn, I was hoping.
As you may have sensed I will be happier when Spring gets her and it starts to warm up. I will be even happier when Summer gets here LOL

I Did?

Amazing. I got an email this morning thanking me for my purchase. Often these emails are spam and get deleted right away. This one however piqued my interest since it was from ITunes and I do have an ITunes account.
I have, however, not used this account in well over a year so that made it even more interesting. Apparently what I bought was some sort of game for three dollars. A game that I never even heard of so I had to go and look it up. It seems to be some sort of childish game with anime characters in it.
I do not like anime nor this game so I am going to have to go to apple's stores and find out when this game was purchased and hopefully by whom. I hate to bother but the wife insists so I will. Not now though as I have better things to do.
I really am not that worried since the account I have with ITunes came from a gift card and there probably isn't that much money left on the account anyway.

Healthcare Needed

As the economy struggles and folks are either laid off or outright fired because their jobs are no longer there, one thing seems to keep moving forward, and that is the health care industry. Why? Because no matter what else is going on in the world people still get sick. I know because I've been in the hospital twice already this Winter.
Many people are turning to healthcare professions as a better career choice in Life and I do not blame them. Some jobs never seem to go out of fashion and healthcare is definitely one of those career choices. Whether it be nursing or some sort of technician there always seems to be jobs available for these people. But, where is the best place to find these jobs?
A great place to start looking for health care job postings is this website. According to the website they have 207,723 Healthcare Jobs Available, with 186,803 New Jobs posted in the Past 14 Days. That is a tremendous amount of job opportunities!
If you are a healthcare professional you really should investigate the opportunities available for you. If you are planning on becoming a healthcare person then I urge you to investigate as well, see what sorts of jobs are out there, what they really pay and then save the website for future use once you do become a healthcare professional.
Don't let the economy get you down, there are jobs available if you are in the right field of work.

I Need Coffee

This is a phrase that is often heard during the course of a day, whether spoken by co-workers or housewives talking to friends on the phone. I need coffee. I often say this phrase myself and all I do is sit in front of this computer all day.
Coffee can be a very addictive habit, not quite as bad as cigarettes or hard core drugs, but it seems addictive just the same. How many people can function without that morning cup of coffee? Not many, I'm sure.
Today is an unusual day for me. Normally, having been up for a couple of hours, I am working on consuming my third or fourth cup of joe. Today I have only had one cup. I am finding it harder than normal to think. If my body would cooperate more (I am very pained today) I'd get up and get a second cup as I am sure that would clear up the cobwebs in my mind so that I could think more clearly. It also would, I'm sure, make me feel more awake. I feel like taking a nap lol
In the meantime I sit here looking at ads on PTC sites and being bored and trying my best to think so that I can write posts for pay that will make you, my readers, desire to visit the websites that I write about.
And think to myself...I need coffee.

Hunting

I have never been hunting, for several reasons, the most important of which would be that I have no need for it. But many people each year to go hunting in order to help feed their families which is good.
The one thing I am sure of about hunting is that you need to see the animals that you are hunting long before they see you. If they see you first they are going to run and hitting a moving target is harder than one that is stationary. This where a great pair of hunting binoculars comes in handy.
Binoculars allow you to see great distances as though they were close up, thus giving you the opportunity to watch your prey as they move towards you. This also gives you ample time to prepare for your shot, so that your kill is a success.
No matter what you hunt, or where, there are binoculars to fit your hunting experience, whether you hunt in dry climates or in the pouring rain. Some binoculars are waterproof so that the rain is not a problem for them.
And, when it is not hunting season a pair of binoculars can be fun. Take them to a sporting event to get a closer look at the action on the field. Use them to enjoy bird watching from your yard, or find where that pesky squirrel is hiding, or gophers that destroy your yard. There are a lot of uses for a pair of binoculars.
Optic sale has more than binoculars though. They also offer rifle scopes, sunglasses, apparel, even flashlights. Check out all the wonderful items before you plan your next hunting trip. Make that next trip a success and bring home some food for the family.

One Day Early

I am posting this a day early because I know that by the time I get here tomorrow, none of my readers will care. So, here you go!

Aircast Boots

Because I have osteoporosis in my back and my hips I have, some days, a lot of difficulty walking anywhere, even the few steps from this chair to the coffee pot can be a trial. Thankfully my lower legs and my feet are okay or I would probably never walk at all. I cannot imagine how people with foot trouble walk, even with the help of a brace, but they do walk and they seem to walk better than I do some days.
What is a boot, you ask? Well, an aircast boot looks like this:

Doesn't look all that comfortable, does it? But I'm sure they are more comfortable than trying to walk while in serious pain. The boot pictured above has Foam-filled aircells to cushion the ankle for both comfort and support. So, at least one can walk without screaming in agony every step of the way and they can heal if it is something temporary and be in comfort if the problem is permanent.
If you have foot problems or leg problems then I suggest you go check out the braces that are available on the website. Your body will thank you and you will be able to walk in comfort.

Change Google

Yesterday I went to search for something on Google from my laptop. At the bottom of the search page I saw this thing that said change background, so I clicked on it. I get tired of all that white on their page LOL
It allowed me to put an image of my lovely wife and her dog as the background for their search engine page and I was amused as well as pleased with the results.
This morning, sitting at the desktop computer I needed a new page opened up to go to a website so I opened Google in a new tab (it is the fastest loading page I have bookmarked on my toolbar). Imagine my surprise when Google loaded and there was the picture I had uploaded from my laptop!
If you are tired of Google's plain white background, go to their search page and upload a picture of your own. Much nicer to look at when you need to search things :)

Too Skinny

Last night, after I had crawled into bed for the night, my wife rolled over and half opened one eye and got startled. She told me that she thought I was still in the bathroom. She didn't even realize I had gotten int bed. I know I am light, but I didn't think I was THAT light LOL
Here is a recent picture of me:

Save The Planet

More than ever before, these days more and more people are concerned with the environment and saving the planet. This is a good thing as Man has spent centuries doing his best to destroy the very planet he lives on. People everywhere are "going green" and trying to preserve whatever is left of the planet.
Everyone can help with saving the planet and going green, from changing the light bulbs that you use in your home or office to products for the home and office that help keep these places clean. Using these green cleaning products is a great place to start your own campaign to save the planet.
These products are not only eco-friendly and good for the planet they are very cost efficient as well. As a school custodian for twenty five years I know my cleaning products. And, as someone that dealt with various cleaning product salespeople, I am well educated on costs for these items as well.
Greenchemdirect has both cleaning products for industry and the ordinary home. From bathroom cleaners to upholstery cleaners you are sure to find the cleaning products that you need for your home or office or warehouse at a good price.
Everyone should be concerned with the environment and going green and there is no better place to start than with your cleaning supplies.

Cafe World

My wife, my daughter and myself all play on Facebook. We play Farmville and a lovely game, if you can call it a game, called Cafe World. You design your own cafe then cook items in it to serve to customers. It's fun although it can be time consuming.
When I bought my wife her new computer I was certain that it would easily handle the things that she needs to do and those she wants to do, like Cafe World. It has one Gig of RAM and that should be plenty to handle everything. Unfortunately this is not the case.
She can do everything she wants to do except Cafe World. For some strange reason Cafe World sucks up all the available memory then slows the computer down to a snails pace. Yes, eventually Cafe World will load but she has neither the time nor the patience to wait for this glorious occurrence.
Certainly seems odd to me that this program does what it does. Other Zynga games like Farmville don't take up all the memory and slow things down that much. They do take a lot of memory but Cafe World is the worst. This makes my wife sad as she really loved doing her cafe in the past.
I am hoping that things will change. I saw somewhere recently that some Linux programming people were going to work at Zynga. Perhaps they can fix Cafe World so that it runs well on an ordinary computer instead of the high speed, super-duper server that the current programmers must be using.
Actually I think if the current people got rid of some of the junk that they feel must be loaded each and every time one goes to their cafe the silly thing wouldn't require so much memory to run.

Point Of Care

Having been in the hospital twice this Winter I, unfortunately, got to see a lot of medical people as well as a lot of medical equipment. These people came to my bedside frequently with various pieces of equipment to check out my vital body parts and organs. And, almost always, these people brought with them a point of care cart.
These carts carried the equipment needed to perform the task and were usually adjustable so that the technicians using the equipment can do their job easier and more efficiently, not to mention quicker. I imagine that these techs see a large number of patients each and every day and need to get in, do the task at hand, and then move on to the next patient.
I thanked them all for their time and trouble, I know I wasn't the worst case patient they were going to see that day, I was easily moved around as needed but I know that some patients were going to require more patience on the part of the technicians because the patients were in pain or traction or whatever else. And, on one occasion I actually learned something.
One of the carts brought a fancy heart monitor that, like an ultrasound, can actually take images of the heart as it pumps away. I was amazed at how fast my heart pumps blood in and out considering I have low blood pressure as a norm. If mine beats that rapidly I wonder just how quickly does a heart with high blood pressure pump? Not sure I really want to know the answer to that question.
If you are a hospital worker and need one of these point of care carts, then Howard Medical has the items that you need. From batteries to carts to computers, you need to check their products out. Not only will your work day be easier, the patients that you see will thank you for being so professional.

The Monday After

Yesterday was the day for the time change from Standard to Daylight Savings time. Yesterday, as usual, I felt okay. Today, however, I am tired. This normally occurs for me, the day of the change is okay, the day after I'm tired.
I have no idea why we still switch over to Daylight Savings Time. Certainly not because of the farmers, although I wonder what farmers thought of the idea in the first place. Do normal working people really need that extra hour of daylight? Does it make their commute from work to home more enjoyable? Does anyone other than some silly person in Washington, D.C. care about the time change? I know I don't care, one more hour of daylight makes no real difference in my life, not now, or ever.
But, still we change our clocks twice per year, unless you live in Arizona which never changes their time. Smart people there.
I hope your body has adjusted to the time shift. As for me, it's just another morning after...

Cabin Beds

If you are one of the lucky ones that have a cabin in a resort spot or up in the mountains or if you just would like to have that feeling of a cabin in your house, perhaps the bedroom is a good place to start. You can get that cabin-feel by purchasing cabin beds for your bedrooms. These lovely beds on this website are made of wood and look sturdy as any metal frame beds I have seen. But, they are also very decorative as well. For instance, this lovely bed:

Just imagine crawling into that one at the end of a long, hard day of work. You could drift off to sleep daydreaming of being in a rustic mountain setting, that should calm your nerves and unstress your body.
And, if you are so inclined they also have other types of wooden furniture, for the bedroom as well as other parts of your home. From bookcases to bathroom vanities to desks and other office furniture. heck they even have wooden beds for your pets. Never mind keeping up with the Joneses, let the Jonses keep up with you!
Go and check out all the great wooden furniture the website offers. Then get ready to enjoy that furniture in your home.

I Need Padding

Okay, so I have the laptop now which means I can change from this office type chair (cushioned)to my overstuffed chair in the living room which is very cushioned.
The problem with it all is that no matter which chair I am in my butt hurts after a couple of hours. I think them nurses put bad thoughts in my head lol
I like using the laptop for most things, although I don't care much for the tinier keyboard. But it is great for playing games and doing things on Facebook so that part is all I could ask for. Not the laptops fault that I have clumsy fingers when typing.
Not sure what to do about my back and my butt though. I could switch chairs more often I suppose but that is a hassle for a couple of reasons. I'd have to keep shutting down the laptop so it doesn't just sit there and overheat and if I am not using this desktop my daughter is. I'd hate to have to deal with that mess of taking her off every couple of hours.
I will figure things out, eventually.

Tech Jobs

Since this is the age of computers, and almost everything seems to be computer oriented then it's a safe bet to assume that there are many, many, computer technical people out there. Someone has to keep these computers running and someone has to create software and even more computer parts and ideas.
I'm not one of those. I was, in the early stages of my computing history one of those that dabble in machine code and I even went to college and learned a language called Fortran which, if you don't know, was basically for engineering type people. But that was a long, long time ago. I use a Linux program for this computer but I don't dabble in anything that my older brain cannot easily comprehend.
If you are one of those that like to dabble, or actually know what you are doing, then perhaps you are out in the real world looking for tech jobs. After all, one has knowledge, one should use it to earn a living.
Whether you are an Information Tech person or a Software Engineer that has mastered C++ or Java then this website is for you. They have, as I write this, 139,343 jobs from across the web. Almost 140,000 is more than enough I would think to find yourself a job or a better job so that you can advance your own personal career.
If I were a younger man and still able to move around freely I certainly would be more computer savvy than I am now and I would certainly avail myself of the services on this website. I know that a good tech job is hard to come by as one of my sons is a Software Engineer of some sort. He tried to explain his job to me but I'm not sure I got the whole picture clearly in my mind. But I know that he has changed jobs a few times so that he can better himself as he gets a little older and you should do the same. Work Or Play?

I posted this question on my Facebook although I don't know why. I know what 99.99% of my Facebook friends will say, play.
The one nice thing about using Ubuntu is that I cannot load my Windows based game on here. This means that I have no excuse to skip writing things in this blog and making a few bucks just so I can play and have fun instead.
However I can use Marapets and other game sites where the games are on the website and that makes it a little more difficult to skip the play and do the work.
Today, thus far anyway, the games are winning.
I need to take a computer break and eat something. Maybe that will put my brain back to focusing on the tasks at hand rather than goofing off.

Awards For Anything

The name of the website as mentioned in this blog title certainly is an attention grabber. Being the silly person I often am, my immediate thought was of a trophy for being silly somehow. But, I didn't see any clowns there. What I did find was a vast selection of trophies and awards for lots of things, mostly sports related, from T-ball to wrestling with just about every other sport in the middle.
It isn't just trophies and awards that they have, they also have clocks and coins. These items would be especially good for sales oriented people. Who wouldn't like to get a clock for being, say, the salesperson of the month? I know I would.
The site offers free logo setup so you can get your logo on the awards that you choose. They also offer free engraving as well as free shipping. I like that word free. Anything free these days is a great deal to me.
If you are involved with sports, either as a player or just a "soccer mom" or if you have a company and you've been thinking of what to give away either to your workers or your customers, this is a site that you should visit.
And, if you like what you see but don't want to commit right at the moment, sign up for their email exclusive deals and a chance to win $100 off your next order. That's sounds good to me too.
Go, check out the trophies, clocks, coins and everything else they offer. Then buy something, even if it is just for yourself, say, World's Greatest Bowler. I won't tell on you.

UFO?

Amazing what people will think when they see lights in the sky! This is a news story I got in an email and I just wanted to share as it is so silly:
VANCOUVER, Wash. (UPI) -- A UFO flashing lights in the night sky over Vancouver, Wash., has been revealed by its owner to be a large Chinese-made kite.

Witnesses reported what they thought was a flying saucer-type UFO dancing high over Fisher's Landing on the Columbia River last month, emitting a display of electrified colors, The Columbian of Vancouver reported Wednesday.

The reports led to a media frenzy and an outpouring of public opinion but a guy wanting to be known only as Mike identified flying object -- made of parachute fabric into a triangle shape, standing 7-1/2 feet tall with a 13 foot wingspan. He said the lights on his kite are made up of hundreds of colored LEDs, powered by an onboard rechargeable lithium ion battery with a small onboard computer that sequences the lights into repeating patterns every 4 minutes, the newspaper said.

Mike says he isn't breaking any federal rules or regulations flying the $500-plus kite he bought online because he has discussed his flying with both the Federal Aviation Administration and with Vancouver police. He says he keeps his kites lower than 500 hundred feet as required where he lives.

He says people watching him work his multicolored, parachute-fabric, sky-flying baby are agog when he does his thing.

"It's amazing," members of the Carpintero family told the Columbian. "It's really pretty."

Protect That Phone

My cell phone cost me around twenty dollars a few years ago. It serves it's purpose for me as I rarely ever use it, so that's fine. My wife and daughter however both have cell phones that cost a lot. I don't know exactly because they didn't tell me how much. It wasn't my money they were spending so I didn't care to pester them about it.
With these expensive phones comes the risk that they may be damaged and that is not a good thing. I am certain that, if they are damaged and need to be replaced, then it will be my money being spent. I don't like that idea at all.
What my two lovely females need is to get some protection for their cell phones and while they are at it, perhaps some Cell phone accessories. Preferably with their own money, of course.
From batteries to Bluetooth gadgets to signal boosters, this website has more than enough accessories to keep any ardent cell phone lover happy. They even have cell phones, like this beauty:

Only around $160. This would be a great phone for my wife, as she loves to do more than make calls and text, she actually surfs the net and reads emails on her phone. I could, but that's what I have this computer for. But, I do like the looks of that Iphone and her birthday is a few months away so I shall remember that phone.
If you are like my wife and daughter, in love with your cell phone, then you need to browse through the above mentioned website and see what goodies they have for you.
Whatever you do I do hope that you protect your cell phone. They are not cheap and they are not getting any cheaper in the future. Keep that cell phone safe!

Cleaning It Up

Last night my wife's computer was dragging itself. Too pooped to run several programs at the same time that require memory and space.I told her I would come and look at it but she said no, she would just reboot. This helped her a little but still the computer was slower than usual.
Today my two females are out watching a movie at the dollar theater. So, I had time to go and look at her computer without her being around to complain. Just because I have managed to blow up more than one computer in the nine years she and I have lived together is no reason to doubt my abilities LOL
I did manage to clean it up, ran several cleaning up processes that I have learned through the years and now it should be better and faster than it was. I was surprised that, when I ran the Analyzer, it said the drive did not need defragging.
Her computer is off now, resting. She won't be home for a few hours so she can start it back up when she gets here and then I will know if the cleaning up helped.
Oh, I also updated her Java. Whenever she sees these little update boxes she almost always refuses to do the update. Since one of the programs she was having minor trouble with last night is Java based, I'm sure that will help as well.
Those two girls need to clean their temp files from time to time and do the updates when they occur. Might help them keep their computer in better shape.

Car Insurance

I do not drive anymore as I have no car. My last one blew a head gasket and I could neither afford to get it repaired or replace the car. I miss driving at times as anyone would. What I don't miss is the insurance premiums I had to pay. But, the law is clear in most states, you must have car insurance. As often as I see fender-benders while out and about, I can see the necessity of having insurance. These days even minor repairs can get costly so it would be nice to have the insurance company pay the bill ( or at least part of it).
There is a lawyer here in my area who advertises with the slogan "Because accidents happen" and whenever I see the ad I think not of lawyers but insurance companies instead. That would be a great slogan for one of those companies.
Accidents DO happen and as a driver you need to be prepared for such things, whether they are your fault or someone else's. This is why you need car insurance. But, where can you go to find the best rates for you? Insurance agents often work on commission so you know they are going to try and get you to take more coverage than you need. I would too in their place. But, if you check out insurance online you can look at the options and see exactly what you need and skip all the rest if you so choose to do so. And, the best part of doing it online is that it is free and there is no time limits. Take as much time as you need to truly examine all the options. No customer is waiting impatiently behind you in an office. You do it anywhere, work, home, out at a coffee shop.
Give yourself that edge. Click the link and see what insurance options are available from a variety of insurance companies then buy what you need. Then you can relax while out driving.

Marapets

The game site I play on is for adults although judging from the chat at times it may be difficult to tell that they are adults. And, occasionally, we get a minor in there but they give themselves away by saying things like they want a game but mommy won't buy one. This makes my job easier!
One of the other sites I play at is Marapets. It is generally for kids but there are a lot of adults there also. I like this site because I can play simple games to give my mind a break and simply have some fun. I also have made, in my little shop, around 130 million points. This allows me the freedom to buy just about anything the site comes out with without having to spend real cash on an upgrade package.
People have enough stress in their lives and places like Marapets can reduce that stress by letting you play like you were still a kid.
If you are stressed you should go and check out Marapets and see for yourself. Just relax and play and let the worries of the day get left behind.

Tiling

I love the house I am living in, it has carpet all over the place except for the kitchen and the bathroom, both of which have tile flooring. The tiles are rather plain looking, all white and no design on them which is too bad. I kind of like looking at floors that have a design on them. And, these tiles are getting rather funky looking, have no idea why exactly but I might want to change them sometime in the future and, if I do, they will not be replaced with the same tile design.
I was looking at glass mosaic tiles because there are some great designs with these sorts of tiles. I really am enamored by this one:

Imagine how nice this would look in a kitchen. Imagine too how shiny and bright it will look when the sunlight hits it from the kitchen windows. Whoa! That might be blinding, but I would still love it. It is a little expensive but, hey, it is a mixture of glass and stone. And, it is rather exotic looking I think.
If you are like me, tired of looking at the same old pattern of your tile floors or, even better, tired of carpeting and want tile flooring, I urge you to go check out all the great designs available and think about changing your flooring too.
Not only will new tile floors enhance your home for you, if you decide to sell your house prospective buyers will enjoy seeing something out of the ordinary. This would make a great selling point!

Peace And Quiet

I have the pleasure of living with two females, one younger, one is my spouse. They can be rather noisy at times, either talking or listening to videos on the internet. The younger one is the noisiest because she cannot refrain from listening to things online and she cannot for the life of her manage to sit still.
The older one is my wonderful wife who, like all spouses, wants to talk. If she isn't here she still wants to talk. In the middle of my last blog post she called me on the phone so we can talk. It's okay, I don't mind talking to either of them if I am not trying to write.
Now the house is completely quiet, except for the usual household noises like the refrigerator motor from time to time and the sound of me typing. I have peace and quiet and I am enjoying it as I know it is short lived.
I like peace and quiet. When I was with my first wife and we had four boys they would always ask me what I wanted for my birthday or Christmas or Father's Day and I would always tell them (jokingly, of course) peace and quiet. I never got this gift then and I won't ever get it now either, not with two females around.
I love all my kids very much and I wouldn't trade the experience of raising them for anything. I never wanted kids but somehow managed to end up with five of them, all of them stepchildren but still, all of them mine. And I love them.
Now I am going to sit back, drink a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette and enjoy the peace and quiet while I may. I have another post to write and I need to be able to think clearly, something peace and quiet affords me.

Too Much

Last night I had the coughing fir from Hell. It lasted over two hours! Just when I thought it was winding down it would start back up again.
There was a silver lining to that black cloud thous. I coughed up an enormous amount of phlegm that I hope is what has been stuck down there all Winter. I know that's gross, but at least I got rid of it and that made me feel better.
The other good thing was that during all that time of coughing I didn't smoke. That's a good thing too!
This morning I woke up feeling a lot better than I have felt in a while so that is truly a blessing. I just want this crud that has been in my system all Winter to go away and leave me alone.
I am living that awful saying, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Short Term Insurance

It has been a rough, make that very rough, Winter. I have been in the hospital twice with lung problems, the worst of which was pneumonia. The cost of these two visits was staggering to say the least. I owe the local hospital almost forty thousand dollars. Since I have no insurance this amount is not good for my wallet!
Too many people have no insurance these days and just go through living day to day praying that they don't get sick and need to see a doctor or, God forbid, be hospitalized like I was. Perhaps they are between jobs or they finally found a job but are not covered by the company insurance plan just yet. These people need to get some Blue Cross short term insurance.
Short term, or temporary insurance is available for many reasons and should be used to cover someone so that they can see a physician when they need one, not just hope that things will go away on their own. And, Blue Cross is one of the most reputable insurance companies around so you should feel confident in their ability to cover all your medical needs.
Don't get stuck with high hospital/medical/pharmaceutical bills like I did. Check out the insurance plans that are available for short term or temporary use. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure!

Bigger Is Better

As my readers should all know by now, I have a new laptop computer. I like it because it affords me the pleasure of sitting in my overstuffed chair in the living room when my back and butt get tired of the office chair I normally am sitting in. It's a nice laptop and it has a nice sized hard drive inside it.
I also like using Ubuntu as my operating system rather than Windows XP. However after installing it on my laptop I can see now why people that use a dual-boot system on one hard drive need a bigger drive.
The hard drive on the laptop is a 40 Gig drive which should be more than enough space for a portable computer. However, when I installed my Ubuntu operating system onto the laptop along with the XP that was already there, the amount of free space left little to download and save much. Between two operating systems, if I wanted to actually save anything like music or pictures or videos, I would definitely need a hard drive twice the size, at least 80 Gigs. Since that isn't going to happen, it was good-bye Ubuntu.
I'm sure I will survive with Windows XP although I wish I didn't have to. Some things I use on a daily basis require Windows to run so those are the things I will be using most on my laptop.

Remote Security

A few mornings ago I opened the window shade here by my computer to let in a little sunlight and, as I opened it, I saw a young black man running into the yard to take what he perceives to be a shortcut to the other street. A little while later I find the police in my yard searching the property. They even looked in my trashcan! So, being nosy, I went out and asked them if I could help them. Turns out they were looking for the young black man I had seen in my yard earlier along with a young black female I had seen on the street that did not take the shortcut. The police did not say why they were looking for them but I later found out from a friend that they had robbed the new store that had just opened up a week or so ago. Welcome to the neighborhood!
My neighborhood is not the best, there are working class people here and a whole lot of poorer people and some drug users as well. I try to never leave my house unguarded for very long as I like to come home and find my things are still here. I do not have much but what I have is mine and I'd like to keep it that way.
Now there is a way that I can leave my home and still feel like everything will be there when I get back. I can get a remote security system that allows me that comfort and freedom. With this system I can activate alarm settings, turn on lights if I am out later than expected, and I can view live video of my property. Amazing!
If you live in a neighborhood like mine, or worse, I urge you to check and see what great security options are available to you from ADT. Then you too can leave your home and feel like things will still be there when you return. Don't lose your valuable items to a thief!

OOPS For The Laptop

Okay, so I am on the laptop and I go to use a program and it isn't there. What the heck? I also notice that the games folder is now empty. Hmmm...
A day or so ago I decided to get rid of some Windows programs that I do not use and have no plans to use like Outlook Express and Messenger. Apparently by removing these junk programs I also deleted the Accessories and Games Programs. Why all these things are connected only the foolish people at Microsoft can explain although I have my doubts of that.
Thankfully there is System Restore to rescue my idiotic self. I went back to a restore point and got everything back. I then tried to delete Messenger again and guess what? It deleted the Games and Accessories files again! Another Restore and all is back to the way it was.
I then had to go and update the wireless connection driver since I had updated to a new driver after the restore date. I really hate having my wireless connection drop down to 1 MB per second or whatever it is. Not cool at all :(
So, I guess I am stuck with the stupid programs that Windows thinks that I need. At least all is working properly with the stuff I truly do need, like the internet browsers.
And the fine folks at Windows and Microsoft wonder why people switch to Linux instead. get a grip, people!

Times Have Changed

In the 1960's, during the hippie days of love beads and such all one needed was some beads and a piece of good string. Put the two together and there you have it, one handmade love necklace or bracelet. Simple as can be. These days however, things have changed, now you not only need the beads and the string or wire, you also need something called a ring mandrel.
A mandrel is a tool that is used to grip things. This is good for working with beads and other jewelry components. I know this because I have seen my daughter make beaded items and lose the beads where I can find them on the floor the next time I walk through her area. She needs one of these mandrel things!
Apparently, although not hippie influenced, jewelry making and beading are as popular as ever. Handicraft hobbies have always been popular with people and, in tougher economic times, they seem to become even more popular. Perhaps this is good for artistic folks like my daughter as a handmade gift is not only cheaper it also is a more welcomed gift, a gift of love as it were. You took the time to make something special for someone, how can they not rave about that?

If you are one of these artistic folks or simply a beader/jewelrymaker that does it for the sheer enjoyment it brings to you, you should go and take a look at what this website has to offer. Besides the mandrel they also have beads, crystal beads, glass beads, fabric beads, all sorts of different beads. They also have beading kits to help you out.
If you start beading now, you could have a special gift for every person on your Christmas list. Think how nice that would be!

Scary!

I was sitting in my comfy chair the other night when suddenly the new laptop shut itself off, entering Hibernation Mode. For the life of me I couldn't get it to wake up and I was worried. I went to the HP website to see what I could do but none of the instructions worked. Damn! I was afraid that I was going to have to send the laptop back for repairs after less than one week. Not good. Apparently it was all a comedy of errors, although I didn't laugh until it was over.
First off, the laptop shut itself off like that because I ran out of battery. So, when I brought it into the kitchen to look at the HP site nothing they suggested worked because it had no juice left. I took it back into the living room and plugged in the AC adapter but that didn't seem to make a difference either. It appears that my lovely daughter had turned off the switch that gives the plug power when she turned off the light the night before. OOPS
The next morning, thinking that the battery should be fully charged, I tried again to wake up my laptop. No good :( So, I checked the light switch again, turned it back on and that made no difference either. I was getting really worried now!
Drinking a cup of coffee to allow myself time to think I came up with one more thing to try, make sure the adapter was even plugged in.
It was plugged in alright so why didn't it charge my battery? On closer examination I discovered the truth, wrong one! The adapter that was plugged into the wall was the adapter for the old laptop not the new one. I changed adapters, hit the power switch on the laptop and *miracle* it worked!
I have since gone into the Control Panel and changed the settings. I never want that laptop to Hibernate again, ever. I don't use it for work so I don't care if I somehow run out of battery and lose whatever it is I am doing at the moment.
I am just happy that the laptop is okay, working fine, and I can laugh at the silliness of the situation.

Hello I Am

We have all, at one point or another, been somewhere where you checked in and someone handed you a sticky nametag that said "Hello! I am" and then your name was scrawled underneath. Kind of silly to me since they rarely ever stick to your clothing, but, that's just me. Name tags come in handy though for lots of other people, mostly professional people that want you to remember their name.
If you are a nurse, a doctor or even an insurance agent, name tags become a part of your daily getting dressed routine. You want people to know your name and remember it for future reference. This is especially true for doctors these days I think. They tell me their name but so many of them have foreign sounding names that it is easier for me to read their name tags than remember what they just said.
Maybe you don't need a name tag, perhaps you just would like a name plate for your office desk. These are nice too and can help folks know who they are dealing with when they come into your office. If you are looking for one of those, this website has them. And, they offer customized office signs in a 24 hour turnaround! That's pretty fast for custom orders!
If you need name tags or office signs you should browse the selection offered. Fast turnaround, custom orders, engraving, I'm sure they have what you need. They even have blank name tags in colors to dazzle. What I didn't find there were name tags that said "Hello. I am"

Here I Sit

Here I sit, in the comfortable oversized chair in the livingroom, typing away on my new laptop. I was on the desktop PC earlier today, making my pennies from PTC sites and such, as is my norm for the day. Now I have dragged my bony butt into this chair to give it some much needed relief. The nurses at the hospital would be happy to see me doing this. They complained that I am just too bony on my backsides and my spine and I really shouldn't be sitting in a chair for so many hours per day.
Speaking of making pennies, I realize that most people think that clicking ads and writing blogs and social networking sites that pay you a few pennies per day are not worth the hassle or the time, but they are wrong. Being on a fixed and low income as I am, every penny is a true blessing. In the past six months or so I have now paid for two desktop PCs and this laptop, something I never would have been able to do otherwise. While I know that i did not get top of the line computers, they are all refurbished ones, I also know that I am happy with them all and that is what counts. Sure I'd love to have a computer with 4 Gigs of memory and a TB hard drive and all the bells and whistles. Who wouldn't? If I had that kind of money though I am certain it would be used paying bills and feeding the family instead. So, I do with what I can afford and that's that.
This laptop has one gig of memory and that is enough for the things I do online. I don't play WOW or other high graphic programs or games so I really don't need that much memory. I also have a RAM booster program so that helps some too. I am writing this blog on the laptop and it isn't running slow so what else can I ask for?
Today is a great day!
