Got To Love Shrimp

You really, really have to like shrimp to do something this stupid:

YORK, Pa. (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man allegedly trying to steal a bag of shrimp from a supermarket was arrested with the frozen bag of seafood stuffed in his pants, police said.

A store security officer and a customer at the Weis Market in Dover Township detained Brian Troy McDaniel, 37, the (York, Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News reported last week.

The store officer told police he saw the suspect enter the frozen foods section of the store and take two packages of shrimp from the freezer.

McDaniel then allegedly "proceeded to pull the front of his jeans away from his body and deposit one of the bags of shrimp into his crotch area," police said.

York police did not say what McDaniel did with the other bag of shrimp.

The store officer tried to stop McDaniel as he was leaving the store, but McDaniel refused to stop and attacked the officer, then broke free and ran across the parking lot where the security officer and a store customer caught him and detained him until police arrived, authorities said.

McDaniel was charged with robbery, retail theft and simple assault then freed on $10,000 bail.

I hope he thinks the shrimp that he never got to eat was worth the price! ROFLMAO

Man allegedly helps renovate with 'hot' property

CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - A man may have won points with his girlfriend by offering to help renovate her home. Police weren't impressed, however. Authorities say the man stole some of the things he was using in the renovation
- including $10,000 worth of cabinets.

The 29-year-old man was booked with possession of stolen property.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said he was helping renovate his girlfriend's home with items that had been reported stolen in at least three burglaries. The items included the cabinets removed from the walls of a home in Violet and carpet cut from the floors.

The sheriff's office said Thursday that the man could face additional counts of possession of stolen property.

Group nabbed after fine paid with marked bills

INYOKERN, Calif. (AP) - A group of suspected thieves in Kern County may need to learn the concept of "unmarked bills." A restaurant known as The Homestead in the high desert town of Inyokern had a tradition of customers hanging dollar bills on its walls, usually inscribing them with messages and other distinguishing details.

Last week a man used 10 of the bills, some with the word "Homestead" on them, to pay a court fine, and a clerk immediately recognized them, Sheriff's Sgt. Tyson Davis said Monday.

Donald Dejarnette, 34, and four others have been arrested on suspicion of lifting $8,000 worth of the bills from the restaurant's walls, authorities said.

About $1,000 from the now-closed restaurant has been recovered, some of it from banks where the bills were traded in for larger currency.

A sheriff's deputy reached early Tuesday did not know whether any of the suspects has hired an attorney.

The restaurant has been shuttered and for sale for over a year, but the owner has kept it intact with the remaining bills still on the wall.

Woman finds 'Goldilocks' snoring in her son's bed

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A man was charged with burglary after he allegedly broke into a home, ate cheese from the refrigerator, made a mess in a bathroom and fell asleep on a child's bed. Tracy Mullins, 47, of Billings, was arraigned in District Court on Thursday by video from the county jail.

Mullins pleaded not guilty to burglary. Judge Susan Watters set bail at $5,000 after rejecting a request that he be released without bail. Public defender Richard Phillips, who made the request, said Mullins had been receiving mental-health counseling.

Court records indicate a woman awoke in her home Monday at 8:30 a.m. to the sound of snoring coming from her 2-year-old son's bedroom. Her son had slept that night with her and her husband.

The woman said she found a strange man sleeping in her son's bed. She woke her husband and left to call police from a neighbor's house. The husband confronted the man with an unloaded shotgun and held him until police arrived.

FORT WORTH, Texas (UPI) -- A would-be robber forgot to take his payoff from a coin-operated machine he crashed into in Fort Worth, Texas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says.

The unidentified suspect crashed a truck into the machine at a Fort Worth gas station, managing to knock the machine's collection box free, but then fled the scene without taking the booty, the newspaper said.

The Aug. 2 incident marked the second time this year such a botched theft occurred at the Fort Worth station, the Telegram said.

The station's car wash was targeted some weeks ago by a would-be robber who left behind a collection box full of coins after it was broken free.

Cake mix powder sparks evacuation

ANAHEIM, Calif. (UPI) -- Emergency officials said a powdery substance that caused an evacuation at an Anaheim, Calif., office building turned out to be cake mix.

Crews from the Anaheim and Santa Ana fire departments and members of the Orange County Sheriff's Bomb Squad evacuated about 400 people from the Tenet Health System building after an employee found the powder in an envelope, the Orange County (Calif.) Register reported.

Maria Barrios, a support services operator for Tenet, said four employees who were near the envelope when it was opened were quarantined while the crews investigated.

Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said the substance was found to be cake mix. He said the sender of the package was contacted and was apparently baking a cake before mailing the envelope.

Judge: Girl's name, Talula Does The Hula, won't do

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.

Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.

Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.

The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.
"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."

The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.

In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names.

Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said.

New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.

Suit: Doctor put tattoo on patient

CAMDEN, N.J. (UPI) -- A Camden County, N.J., woman is suing her orthopedic surgeon after he rubbed a temporary tattoo onto her body while she was unconscious.

Elizabeth Mateo claims in her suit that she did not realize until the morning after the surgery that the surgeon, Steven Kirshner, had left a temporary tattoo of a rose on her abdomen while she was under anesthesia, the Philadelphia Enquirer reported Wednesday.

"She was extremely emotionally upset by it," said attorney Gregg Shivers, who filed the suit on Mateo's behalf in Camden County Superior Court.

The suit seeks punitive and compensatory damages from Kirshner.

The doctor admitted to placing the tattoo on Mateo but he denied any ill intent, the newspaper reported. He said he often rubs temporary tattoos on patients as a means of helping to raise their spirits after a stressful operation.

"What's offensive about this complaint is that it suggests something he did was intended to be prurient, and nothing could be further from the truth," said Kirshner's lawyer, Robert Agre. "It was intended just to make the patient feel better."

Corsha Beasley, 21, was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Police responding to a 911 call were trying to break up a crowd outside the Bayou Lounge early Sunday. Beasley allegedly refused to move and instead took off a shoe and used it to hit Dusty, the police horse, near his left eye.

Beasley faces a second-degree felony charge, interfering with a police service animal, and a third-degree felony, assault on a police officer.

Facebook deletes profiles of cat eaters

ARHUS, Denmark (UPI) -- A group of Arhus, Denmark, journalism students said their Facebook accounts were deleted after they posted pictures of themselves eating a cat.

The Danish School of Journalism students said their accounts were closed by administrators of the popular social networking Web site after they uploaded the photos, The Copenhagen Post reported Wednesday.

The students said the cat cooked and eaten as a means of drawing attention to the plight of pigs, cows and other animals used primarily for food.

"We wanted people to think about what it was they were putting in their mouths," said Laura Boge Mortensen, one of the students involved. "It's hypocritical for us to spend thousands of kroner on our pets, yet buy the cheapest pork from Netto that comes from pigs that have lived a horrid life. And just why is it that it's worse to eat a cat than a pig?"

The students said the cat was killed humanely and prepared by a professional chef.

"We had to count to three before we sat down to eat, and I wouldn't really say that we stuffed our face," Mortensen said. "Everyone did take a bite though."

Kids picking up trash discover hand grenade

HUDSON, Wis. (AP) - Three children picking up trash along a river in Hudson for community service work found much more than garbage. Charlie Thompson, 11, Maddie Roth, 10, and Demetri Roth, 8, came across a hand grenade, picked it up and headed home to show off their discovery.

On their way back Monday, they ran into a neighbor, who immediately called 911. Hudson police cordoned off the block, then determined the grenade wasn't a danger, even though it still had the firing pin inserted. Sgt. Eric Atkinson says the grenade was rusted and contained no powder.

Thompson's mother, Heidi Hansen, says the children wanted to keep the grenade for a souvenir, but police are holding it.

Hansen says the kids plan to write a story about their adventure.
