New Admins

Well I and another person have taken over control of the game site I play on as Admins. Lot of work but it will be fun as well, I hope. The other Admin made a new forum for the players and the Mods so that part is set up and running.
I also made a player a Mod, with the other Admin's approval of course, so that part is working as well.
We have changed a few things from the last Admin. New chat Mods will not get a boot tool right away, giving them time to get used to being a Mod and also giving us time to see if they really want the job or they just wanted to boot people. We do not need another boot crazy Mod, the last one was enough.
There are challenges ahead, I just hope that the two of us are up to handling whatever may arise.

Lobby Is On Fire

Some of the players on our game site are, well, less than adult-like. That is putting it mildly though politely. They come in solely to see how much trouble they can cause before they get their chat removed. It's more of a game to them than the games that we offer them to play.
Things have really heated up the past few days, with the old crew coming back in force, almost like they wish to take the Mod jobs back and run the site the way it used to run. This would mean that, if you were part of their clique then anything goes. If you were not part of their clique then you were not welcome in the lobby at all. I assume this is part of the reason the site owner got rid of them all to begin with, now they think they may take it back?
So, the current Mod boss has been fuming lately. She blew her top several times in the lobby, as did her better half. They have pretty much let it be known that they are not planning on giving up without a nasty fight!
Yesterday she came into the lobby and let it be known that within the next few days new lobby chat rules will be in place and where the players can go to read them once they are posted. I am not sure but I have the feeling that the major change will be "no warning". Step out of line and the Mods will not say don't do that, they will just boot you. Other sites do this, they give the players no warnings at all, they just kick them. Sounds good to me.
I have no doubt that all of the troublemakers will run to their respective other chat areas to cry, moan and complain to each other on how it isn't fair. If they have no chat room to go to then I guess they will have to IM each other on Yahoo or MSN or whatever. Poor things.
The alternative will be worse and they really won't like that. The boss threatened to close down the lobby all together, and no chat would not be a good thing for any of us.
Time will tell. Stay tuned for more details as they happen.

Long Week

It is going to be a long week for me. One of the Mods is going away for the week to visit a daughter and I am moving up one shift to cover hers. Not a bad thing really, but the hours will make it seem worse than it really is.
I usually am in the game lobby from 9 p.m. to midnight my time but this week I will be there from midnight to 3 a.m. my time. This time of the day is generally dead in the lobby so it might be hard for me to keep myself entertained and alert. I will do my best though as I don't want to be shirking my mod duties.

Lobby Items That Make Me Laugh

Moderating the chat lobby can be a lot of headaches and stress, but in the midst of that there is always something that will make me laugh.
Last night someone was in the chat lobby grumbling about the site, the slowness of the support staff and anything else they could think of. We all tried to be polite but got nowhere. So, after letting them rant and rave for as long as I could stand it, I finally booted him softly out of the lobby. This means he has to close the game then reopen it. Usually this makes players calm down. Not this time. He came right back into the lobby demanding to know how he got booted and why. I gave him my reasons (arguing with the Mods, disrupting the lobby). He then wanted to know if this is the way the site treats their players. "Yes, sir, it is" I replied. That really set him off. Finally I told him that if he had a complaint with any of the Mods, he should take it up with the Head Moderator.
He didn't calm down but insisted he had done nothing wrong. Most people booted say this. I ignored his banter after this point and he finally got tired of being ignored and went away.
The other thing that makes me laugh is when players come into the lobby to give expert advice on how to play the game. Everyone is entitled to play as they see fit. What makes sense to one person does not always make sense to another and arguments ensue. Usually these arguments get pretty silly and make me and the other Mods laugh a lot. Nothing funnier than watching two stubborn mules LOL
