The New AOL?
For way too long, AOL was the company that people just could not seem to untangle themselves from. If you called to cancel, they would entice you with free months and then you'd still be their customer, paying them for their service.
Well, it appears that NetZero is the new AOL. I cancelled an account there a while back. They offered me one free month, which I politely refused. Imagine my surprise when I went to my credit card website and found that I am paying them five dollars a month for their internet service. HUH???
I sent them an email and got a response from them saying that I had AGREED to take the free month of service and AGREED to continue paying them a lesser amount. That sure is news to me!
So now I have to telephone them again and tell them flat out that if they continue to bill me for their service I shall have to seek legal advice and counsel against them.
I will not pay for something I do not need, want, or use!

Congratulations
Yesterday was spent with all the events that surround a high school graduation, from a quick meal before to the tediousness of the ceremony itself to a wonderful buffet dinner after the ceremony.
Although I have not cared much for the school or the so called teachers there, I am proud that my child has graduated and can now move forward. I fear that she, like the rest of her peers, are in for a very rude awakening. I doubt that society has deteriorated to the point where bosses will be happy when you decide that your MP3 tunes or your gameboy or texting is more important than actually doing your job. Unless, of course, you are lucky enough to get a job wherever it is that Howie Mandel's son works, according to their commercial LOL
I wish my child the very best of luck and I do pray that she succeeds in whatever endeavor she chooses to follow. At the moment it is a wedding planner. While I don't think she has the personality for this job, it is her choice, not mine. I can only stand aside now and watch as she tries, because that is what parents must do :)

The World Gets Screwier!
While I have realized for many many years that the world has some screwed up people in it, I cannot begin to imagine just how screwy this woman is. Killing your own child is bad enough, hell even seriously thinking about it is bad enough, but to do it twice???
Cops: Woman Confesses to Suffocating Boy Found Buried in New Mexico Playground

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
A mother playing with her children at a park spotted a little black sneaker sticking out of the sand underneath the playground equipment. Figuring a youngster had lost his shoe, she bent down to pick it up. It was strangely heavy.
She had made a ghastly discovery: a dead little boy, buried in the sand.
For nearly a week, who the toddler was, how he died, and who put him there were a chilling mystery until Thursday, when a drawing of the youngster circulated by police led to the arrest of a young mother on murder charges.
Albuquerque police said Tiffany Toribio, 23, confessed to suffocating her 3-year-old son, Tyruss "Ty" Toribio, as he slept on the climbing gym — a crime so cold-blooded that neighbors struggled to comprehend it, and even veteran officers became choked up.
"For a mother to kill her own child is unfathomable. Most people can't even imagine how you could even think about doing something like that," said Cmdr. Michael Geier. "We'll never really understand why that happened, but we now understand the dynamics of what led up to that."
Toribio was homeless and sleeping in the park, having been kicked out of her mother's home and a friend's apartment in the days before her son's death because she was ignoring the boy and withholding affection, investigators said.
"What makes this story especially sad was when asked the reason why she took Ty's life, Tiffany said that she did not want him to grow up with no one caring about him the same way that she had grown up with no one caring about her," said Police Chief Ray Schultz, his eyes watery and his voice thick with emotion.
What had baffled police after the discovery of the body was that the chubby-cheeked boy appeared to have been well-fed, showed no signs of physical abuse and was wearing a matching outfit that seemed to suggest he had been well-cared for.
But when no one came forward to report a missing child, police came to suspect that whoever buried Ty was a parent or someone taking care of him.
Police went door-to-door in the neighborhood around the park. They contacted schools, day care centers and homeless shelters. They asked families at other playgrounds about the boy. They reviewed hours of video surveillance tapes from courthouses, hospitals and stores. They followed up on more than 100 tips.
The break in the case came just hours after police released a photograph-like picture of the boy. Family members and others called a tip line to say the picture of "Baby Angel" — as neighbors living near the park nicknamed him — looked like Ty.
Then, police received a tip that Toribio was on her way to the police station to turn herself in. Officers stopped her as she was walking on the street.
The police chief said Toribio told detectives that she suffocated her son in Alvarado Park before dawn on May 13 by putting her hand over his mouth and nose. She said she had second thoughts and performed CPR on the boy, resuscitating him, but reconsidered and smothered him again. Investigators said she then buried him under the climbing gym's hanging bridge, where the body was found two days later.
Schultz called it "somber day" in Albuquerque.
"He was a very special child and that's what makes this case so hard for everybody within the Albuquerque Police Department that's worked on it for the last six days," he said.
Schultz said Toribio attempted suicide in jail and was under close observation. A single mother, Toribio had no criminal record or history of drug or alcohol abuse, the police chief said.
Julie Gonzalez, who lives near the park, described Ty as "such a good little boy, so quiet, mild." But Gonzalez said the boy's mother was "always partying" and that police would have to be called when fights broke out among the partygoers.
Toribio did not have an attorney Thursday morning, and attempts to locate family members were unsuccessful.
Toribio is a member of the Zia Pueblo Indian tribe. Tribal Gov. Ivan Pino said the tribe has asked that Ty's body be returned to the pueblo for burial. People living near the park raised about $4,000 for a funeral for the boy.
"Let the Pueblo of Zia go through its healing process right now," Pino said. "Give us the respect to go through our mourning at this point."
Neighbors gathered at a makeshift memorial at the playground consisting of candles, flowers, stuffed animals and toy trucks. Children played on the equipment; parents and grandparents wept.
"We named him `Baby Angel' and it's important now that we know his real name," said Sarah Sandoval. "Now, his mother will find out this baby has a lot of people who love him and will do anything for a child."
Stephanie Rael, a mother, said she wished she had been at the park when Ty died.
"I could have helped her. I could have called someone. We could have saved him," she said. "We're here in a public place. She could have left him here alive and any one of us could have saw him and taken him or gotten her help."

I Am Shocked And Saddened
Wife of D-backs' Schoeneweis found dead

The wife of Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis was found dead Wednesday in their Fountain Hills, Ariz., home, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's office.
Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was unresponsive when sheriff's deputies came to their home at 12:11 p.m. MST on Wednesday after responding to a call made by the couple's 14-year-old daughter.
According to the release, Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis was found on the floor of the master bedroom. Lindsey Smith, spokesperson for the Sheriff's office, said that there were no signs of foul play and while they are not ruling anything out, they are not treating it as a homicide at this point. More will be known once the medical examiner determines the cause of death, she said.
"Words cannot describe how shocked and saddened we are this evening," D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall said in a statement issued Wednesday evening. "This is a tragedy for the Schoeneweis family, who we naturally consider members of our family. We are here to support Scott in any way during this traumatic period in his life."
The news reached Scott Schoeneweis about an hour before the D-backs were scheduled to begin a doubleheader against the Florida Marlins in Miami. Schoeneweis immediately left the team to head back to Arizona and be with his children.
Scott and Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis celebrated their 10th anniversary in January. They had three children together, and she already had a daughter when they were married.
"I'm at a loss for words," D-backs manager A.J. Hinch said after Game 1 of the doubleheader. "In the baseball side of things, our families are our rocks. And as much travel as we do, as much strain as it puts on them to take care of our kids, take care of our houses, take care of our lives back home, I can't imagine what that feels like to go through for him. So, as I told the team, it's time to just give him as much support as you can and really, really tell people you love them that you do, because you never can expect something like this to happen."
Game 1 starter Doug Davis had never met Gabrielle Dawn, but his mind still couldn't help but be somewhere else as he got ready to take the mound against the Marlins.
"We're all shaken, including myself -- warm-ups and everything like that," Davis said. "Just thinking about it. You have to think about your loved ones at the same time. The first thing you want to do is call your spouse and, in my case, fiancée, and make sure everything is OK. It's tough. Like I said, I feel for him, and I definitely will pray for him."
Executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said Schoeneweis will be placed on the bereavement list, and the club will eventually have to make a roster move.
Byrnes offered to have Jon Garland -- a former teammate with the White Sox -- fly back with him, but Schoeneweis preferred to be alone.
"Primarily, right now, we're just trying to support Scott any way we can," Byrnes said. "It's devastating news, and I know everyone in [the clubhouse] is taking it very hard.
"He had four kids. These guys, at their age, a lot of them have young families and they're very close with the teammates, so it's very devastating."
Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez found out about the tragedy moments before the game.
"It's very, very sad, and my prayers go out to his family and the kids who found her," he said. "It's a sad day, it really is."
Added right-hander Chris Volstad, who became aware right after he came out of the game after six innings: "It's devastating. I couldn't imagine anything like that. It's a horrible situation. I'll be praying for the Schoeneweis family, for sure."
Schoeneweis was acquired by the D-backs from the Mets during the past offseason. In 19 games, he has compiled a 2.53 ERA.
Mets manager Jerry Manuel said he still considers Schoeneweis part of his family. "I mentioned that to our people, that we've got to reach out and do all we can to help support him at this time," Manuel said. "And whatever he needs from us, we'll be here for him."
Francisco Rodriguez, who was a teammate of Schoeneweis with the Angels in 2002 and 2003, said he was "speechless" when he heard the news.
"I'm sad for him," Rodriguez said. "I can't imagine what he's going through right now, all the pain he's going through."

How Odd
This year I subscribed to MLB's Gameday audio so that I can listen to my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, play baseball. It didn't cost that much compared to their Gameday where you can actually see the game instead of just listening.Since I am poor, I went the cheap route LOL
Here's the odd part. I'm looking at the window while listening to a game and down at the corner there's this small box that says Highlights. I clicked on it thinking that I would hear a replay of some great part of the game. Wrong! It isn't an audio replay it's the video! How cool is that? I saved a lot of money by choosing to listen to the games and can still watch the highlights!
Instead of looking cheap and poor, I'd say I now look like a pretty smart shopper :)

Listen Up, ESPN!
I really enjoy watching ESPN, and most especially Baseball Tonight. But, I really think that today the crew of BT dropped the ball.
Come one guys, I realize the Pittsburgh Pirates are not the hottest team in the sport and they are not even having that wonderful a season. BUT, how many other teams scored ten runs in one inning today??? The Bucs just ran away with that game with those ten runs.
But, in typical "we don't care what small teams do" mentality, this is one of the very last things you talk about on the show? And, you only show one brief snippet??? Thanks for nothing!
You all know damned well that if the Dodgers or the Yankees had scored ten runs in one inning you'd be bringing it up all over the place. And I'd bet there would be more than a few seconds of clip to show, just because they did it. I guess the folks in Pittsburgh, or those of us that are Pirates fans outside of Pennsylvania (like me here in Southern California) don't rate as high as fans of those bigger teams.
Face it, ESPN, you guys dropped the ball. For that, YOU get the baseball error of the day!

Nicotine Makes You Do Strange Things!
Don't look at me...I have never gone naked to a neighbors house to bum a smoke...
CLEARWATER, Fla. (UPI) -- A 52-year-old woman in Clearwater, Fla., was naked when she knocked on the door of a house and asked a resident for a cigarette, police allege.
Pinellas County sheriff's deputies said when they arrested Monica L. Wood in a nearby mobile home park early Friday morning the woman was only wearing boxer shorts, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times said.
The Clearwater resident faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, the Times said.
There was no word on whether she scored any smokes.

The Streak
Finally, after losing eight straight games, the Pirates won today! They beat the Cardinals 7 to 1 :)
Speaking of streaks, Zimmerman's hitting streak is now at 30! The Washington Nationals player is now just 26 hits away from tying the all time hit streak record of 56 set by the great Joe DiMaggio. Although he is an opponent of my Prates team, I wish this young man the best of luck!

May Is Not Good
While the Pirates did well in April, May has not been kind to them. To put it mildly, they suck. The bullpen pitchers are not doing their jobs well at all. Probably a good thing I am not in control, they'd all be getting bus tickets to Indianapolis and Triple-A ball LOL
It's getting warmer here. Feels like summer already, with the temps today in the 100 range. I feel very sorry for my two dogs, both of which are black. they look miserable :(
Oh! I almost forgot! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!

Problem solved
The problem with my Yahoo email has been solved, although I am not happy with the results.
In order to see the emails from my Yahoo Groups, which is mostly pictures, I had to switch to the new, improved (yeah, right) Yahoo mail settings.
Why is it when things are working great some software "genius" has to come around and fix it? I'd sure hate to see what these guys would do with a brand new car. They'd probably take the damned thing apart to see why it works! LOL
Speaking of cars, I have to laugh every time I see one of those Ford car ads touting Synch by Microsoft. Let's see, a car that is traditionally not that great (Found On Road, Dead) and a company that makes software that crashes for no reason. What a combination! LMAO

Error Number Five?
I get most of my Yahoo Groups emails in my Yahoo mailbox. But, for the past few days that's about all I get, is the mail. I get a lot of spam in there and it lets me wipe that out easily enough, but the real mail that I want to see? Forget about it!
I can open maybe four or five and then it suddenly stops. It gives me a sorry for the inconvenience message and says I have run into error number five. Well, whoop-dee-doo!
I contacted them and they gave me some message back as to how I could correct my problem but none of their suggestions were of any use to me as they didn't apply. All I want is to see my emails. GRRR!
So, I have changed the group emails over to my main email account. Now it can get all plugged up with the junk and the spam and the rest.
Yahoo? Boo hoo! LOL
