Disaster

The longer I live the more people seem determined to be forever tied to electronic devices like their computers. I for one seem lost when mine doesn't work properly.
But sometimes I think we carry these love affairs too far. We live in a computerized fairy tale where nothing bad will ever happen and, when something bad does occur, we are lost and confused.
A few days ago the game servers crashed and they crashed in a major disaster. All of the data for the month of February was completely wiped out. The tech crew worked several days trying every trick in the book but to no avail. Nothing they could do to bring things back.
Why is this a major disaster? All of the players that joined the site in February were wiped out, as if they had never joined.
All of the freeDs that were won by players were wiped back to January 31. Some of those players had won an enormous amount of freeDs and, as can be imagined, were not happy campers at all.
The back up system was in place, as was a back up system for the back up system. No one could conceive of a situation where both of these back up systems would fail at the exact same time.
Yes, we believe that nothing bad will ever happen to our computer systems. Imagine if this had happened at your ban and not a game site!
