Bloggers, Take Note

There appears a new way of advertising on your blogs. Audio advertising. I know, most audio on a web page is a real pain, but this says the audio is a whole five seconds long. How bad can that be?

If you’d like to check it out for yourself, here is the link to use:

But, Why?

Tantric Master Breaks Ice Record in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) - A man who calls himself a tantric master broke his own world record by standing engulfed in ice for 72 minutes.

Wim Hof, 48, stood on a Manhattan street in a clear container filled with ice for an hour and 12 minutes Saturday.

Hof said he survives by controlling his body temperature through tantric meditation. Tantra is an Eastern tradition of ritual and meditation said to bring followers closer to their chosen deities.

Hof set the world record for full body ice contact endurance in 2004, when he immersed himself in ice for an hour and eight minutes.

Hof's feat kicked off BRAINWAVE, a five-month series of events in New York exploring how art, music, and meditation affect the brain.

(This version corrects Hof's old record to 68 minutes instead of 78 minutes.)

Clothes Get In The Way!

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (AP) - Word that a man was caught driving in the buff through town has Mayor Marion Presley hustling to get the real skinny out about the Illinois community: West Frankfort is not a nudist colony.

Police arrested Justin Flora, 34, of Marion, Ill., on Monday and charged him with two counts of public indecency after several female motorists reported him driving without a stitch of clothing.

Police Chief Jeff Tharp says Flora said he just liked to drive unencumbered to check out the ladies.

Tharp says Flora insisted he didn't mean to offend any one in the southern Illinois town of 8,200.

Flora doesn't have a listed home telephone number and couldn't be reached for comment.

My First Real Spammer?

On my other blog, http://isntlifestrange.blogono.com, I believe I got a spammer!

I got this comment:
gadeyhay http://swqxvakp.com lzdejpkm pfkrgflq
left by:

which of course Firefox could not find.

I am happy that someone read my blog, and took the time to leave a comment, I just wish it had been a comment that made some sense and was from a real web address LOL

If I have been spammed, does this mean I am beginning to succeed?

Guns and People Don't Mix

Unsuccessful Robber Shoots Self in Foot

CHERRYVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities said an unsuccessful robber shot himself in the foot … by shooting himself in the foot. Police said Kelvin Ethelbert Roberts, 28, botched his plans to rob a Cherryville convenience store by accidentally shooting his right foot.

According to an arrest warrant, Roberts dropped a .45-caliber handgun in front of Gasland USA on Sunday. The gun hit the ground and went off, a bullet striking Roberts in the foot.

Roberts faces several charges that include attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Police said the handgun had been altered to fire .410 shotgun shells.

Authorities said Roberts was in illegal possession of the gun because of his felony cocaine possession conviction in 2002 in Chautauqua County, New York.

Cherryville is about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Crummy Day

Weather here is grey and cloudy, threatening rain and/or snow. All I want to do is lounge around doing nothing.
I hate winter :(

Fred Thompson Quits Race!

Sorry to see that Thompson has quit running for president. Seems he did not fare all that well, although I am not sure why.
At least he gave it a try :)

I wonder now though, will he go back to Law and Order and make McCoy go back to work as an Assistant D.A.??

Just Wondering About Blogs

How many times a day should one update their blog? Once, twice, every time you get a thought?

I’ve seen some blogs that actually look like some of my LiveJournal friends, they post pretty much nothing, but the post it frequently throughtout the day. Is this really blogging?

Personally, I think once a day is the right thing. Since I have three blogs, sometimes once a day is too much to think about LOL Of course one of them is easier to update, because it’s just strange news or funny pictures. But the other two do require some actual thought processes.

Then, there are blogs that don’t update daily. Maybe once a week suits them better. Those that post a lot of pictures of themselves in new outfits, I can understand not updating daily, unless you are the worlds worst shopoholic!

So, I am just wondering…What works best for you, dear blog reader? Let me know! Don’t be shy, leave a comment. You know you really want to!

Best Bumper Sticker of 2008?

Daily Routine

What do you do when you first fire up your computer in the morning? Run to your blog to see who has been there? Check your advertising to see how much you've earned?
Here's my daily routine:
I check my email, see if I have any important messages from family, any comments left on my blog, delete the tons of spam I get.

I then go to http://www.marapets.com to do the daily things I need to do on the game site. All the while, I am drinking my coffee and having a cigarette, working my brain into a waking state.

Then, it's on to the "minor" email sites I use, Excite and Yahoo, to see if I have any blog comments there or comments to different blogging site forums.

Then, it's on to the advertising sites to see who is advertising on my site and how much they are paying me for the priviledge.

Then, it's on to the blog sites themselves, to see how the ads look, and click on them (sometimes it's hard to tell just what they are advertising). I also check the boxes that tell me who has been there recently and where they are located in the world.

Then, more coffee, more nicotine and the important part of the day begins, updating all my blogs.

There's ,my routine...what do you do?

Remember when being sick was “fun”?

When you’re a kid, being sick is kinda fun, depending upon how sick you are. You got to stay home from school, watch t.v. most of the day, play games in your room. Fun!

As an adult, being sick is not fun at all. Whether you are missing a day of work, or some other activity. Watching t.v. all day is boring. Surfing the net can be bothersome too.

Yesterday I woke up with a ballooned head, full of snot :( I felt tired and just generally run down. I felt so yucky I stayed home from my weekly bowling league. When that happens I know I am sick!

I managed to stay awake until later in the evening, and with the assistance of Nyquil managed to fall asleep and stay that way for almost twelve hours. Thank God I don’t have to go to work LOL

I am feeling a bit better today. Still kinda sluggish and tired, but not as snotty as I was yesterday. I also don’t feel like my stomach is going to erupt with a ton of gas boiling inside it like I did last night. I am happy for that!

I am sure there are better things to blog about, but right now my mind isn’t firing on all pistons. I will get better and blog about better things tomorrow :)

I hate cold and flu season, and I am not fond of winter, and being sick is NOT fun!

There’s my thoughts, where’s yours?

Pay for the internet you use?

Time Warner to test Internet billing based on usage

By Yinka AdegokeThu Jan 17, 10:07 AM ET

Time Warner Cable Inc said on Wednesday it is planning a trial to bill high-speed Internet subscribers based on their amount of usage rather than a flat fee, the standard industry practice.

The second largest U.S. cable operator said it will test consumption-based billing with subscribers in Beaumont, Texas later this year as a part of a strategy to help reduce congestion of its network by a minority of consumers who pay the same monthly fee as light users.

The company believes the billing system will impact only heavy users, who account for around 5 percent of all customers but typically use more than half of the total network bandwidth, according to a company spokesman.

Slowing network congestion due to downloading of large media files such as video is a growing problem for Time Warner Cable. The company said the problem will worsen as video downloading becomes more popular.

But the move could prove controversial. Unlike with utility bills such as the phone or electricity, which have traditionally been based on usage, U.S. high-speed Internet subscribers have come to expect a fixed monthly charge. An Internet bill typically only varies based on the speed of the consumer's Internet access.

Time Warner Cable, which has 7.4 million residential Internet subscribers, is hoping the move will not confuse consumers if introduced nationwide and is planning a trial period.

"Largely, people won't notice the difference," said the Time Warner Cable spokesman. "We don't want customers to feel they're getting less for more." News of Time Warner Cable's plans was originally leaked on an online industry forum BroadbandReports.com.

Other cable operators may follow Time Warner Cable's lead and phone companies such as Verizon Communications Inc and AT&T Inc are likely to be watching the New York-based cable operator's plans.

As U.S. consumers have become more used to streaming and downloading digital media over the Web, their Internet service providers have started to come under pressure to be able to keep up with growing demand in a cost-effective manner.

Comcast Corp, the largest cable operator with around 13 million Internet subscribers, has been accused by consumer groups of blocking Web traffic moving across its networks, prompting a notice of inquiry by the Federal Communications Commission earlier this week.

Comcast denies it blocks any Internet traffic saying it uses bandwidth management technology to help improve the customer experience but which may slow down some file transfers.

What was he thinking?

Multimillionaire walks out of own wedding

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (UPI) -- Jim Ferraro apparently couldn't say "I do" at his wedding in Fisher Island, Fla. -- the multimillionaire left in the middle of the ceremony.

The trial lawyer made it all the way to the altar Friday before suddenly telling his fiancee, real estate broker Patricia Delinois, he simply could not go through with the wedding, The Miami Herald said.

"When it was time to say `I do,' I just said, 'I love her but I just can't do this.'" Ferraro said.

The jilted bride's sister, Ingrid Long, told the newspaper it was hard to take when the multimillionaire left the ceremony with his three children.

"I called him a snake," she said. "I think I even called him a few other things. I was trying very hard not to curse, but I think a few curse words came out.''

Project Wonderful

In my other blog, I wrote a piece about having a new sponsor
In part, it says:The ad comes from a place called Project Wonderful. You agree to place an ad on your blog and then people bid on the ad and the highest bidder’s ad magically appears on your page. How easy is that?

I don’t think it’s a real big moneymaker, but I hope that I can make enough that I can bid on someone elses site and advertise this blog :)
So…If you haven’t already click on the ad :)

If you'd like to see the whole post, it is here

Anyone else using this Project Wonderful? If so, how is it working for you?

What's the point of having one?

Had more trouble than it's worth this afternoon getting in touch of my daughter. We gave her a cell phone so that she could use it in emergency and to keep in touch with her mother and I.
She has a bad habit of turning it to vibrate, putting it in her back pocket and then not feel the vibrations. At least, that's her story :)
Since she walks home (about 3 and a half miles) and her mom meets her two-thirds of the way ( they like the exercise) mom was not amused when she didn't answer a call or texts.
I called from home and got her voicemail! Grr! I left a rather mean sounding, parental voicemail LOL
She'd better get out of this bad habit of hers before mom takes the phone away. What's the point of having one if she won't answer?

Happy Monday to you!

It's a brand new week. I am hopeful that this week will be better than the last one, at least for blogging.

If you are one of those that has to go to work, I feel for you. However, even though I like retirement, the money is not good and in some ways, I envy those who have to work.

My work now consists of blogging, and tweaking. I will get my blogs in order, I swear I will. Somewhere there must be an answer, or someone who can supply the answer. I just have to keep believing :)

Have a great week people!!!

blogging is fun?

I have to keep reminding myself of that, as I work on all my blogs. This one and the coffee break one are fine, but the original one I started
http://fwidman.blogono.com/
is a royal pain! I have arrranged and re-arranged things on the page and it is getting better. I hope LOL
The greatest problem at the moment is that the link to leave a comment is down past the search box and the google ads and a bideo! ARRRGHHH!!!
I am sure I will figure it out, I just hope it happens before I go insane LOL

Anyways, that's what is going on with me. What about you?

Let's talk blogs

I spent a couple of hours today surfing through various blogs on the net, just to get an idea of what blogs are out there, what people write about, maybe get some ideas to improve my own blog.

I am surprised at how many blogs are nothing more than advertisements! Not the blogs that are business oriented, those make sense. But I am talking about blogs that are never updated simply because they have no need to update them, unless they find another ad to place on the page. What a waste! Like there are not enough ads floating around a normal blog. I mean, even this blog has ads LOL

Then, there were the really stupid blogs. While the page is loading what you think is a blog, it winds up sending you to another page, an actual website, although not a website most folks would want to go to, unless they are simply looking for hardcore, explicit sites. I guess that means that the fine folks at Blogger do not check the blogs that join their site, or they do not re-check them after the first time. Either way, it’s a shame. And, if blogger did check these sites, they’d find a lot of them that have wiped out the bar at the top of the page that allows surfers to go to another blogger blog! That part stinks too!

There’s my opinion. Now, where’s yours?

What, no cabs in this town??

Teacher Sleeps in Classroom During Storm

OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Intimidated by snowy, slippery roads, a teacher cracked open a can of chili and slept in her classroom. Emma Clisante had a sleeping bag, pillow, toothbrush and fresh clothes Tuesday night at Ogden Preparatory Academy.

“I’m from the Dominican Republic, and when I see snow on the roads, it scares me to death,” Clisante said.

She read, surfed the Internet and caught up on other tasks. She turned off the lights when custodians left at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“Every hour, I would wake up,” Clisante said. “I locked the door from the inside and tried to hide myself under my desk.”

Principal Kathy Thornburg was impressed.

“It warms my heart and shows the quality of educators we have at the school,” Thornburg said.

I guess the only smart thing here is that she wasn’t in the company of one of her students!

There’s my thoughts. Where’s yours?
